BALOO Training: Essential Outdoor Skills for Cub Scout Leaders

Join us for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)—the essential training for Cub Scout leaders who want to take their packs on exciting and safe overnight camping trips!

BALOO is a required training for at least one adult leader on every Cub Scout den or pack overnight event, including pack campouts and Webelos den overnighters. Whether your event is at the pack, district, or council level, having a BALOO-trained leader ensures a fun, safe, and memorable camping experience for all.

During this training, you will:

  • Learn how to plan and lead engaging outdoor activities.
  • Gain hands-on experience in essential camping skills.
  • Discover ways to keep Cub Scouts safe while maximizing fun.
  • Deepen your understanding of Cub Scouting’s outdoor program.

A well-planned and exciting outdoor experience encourages Cub Scouts—and their families—to stay engaged and return for more adventures. Don't miss this opportunity to build confidence, skills, and unforgettable memories in the great outdoors!

Who should take this training?
Any Cub Scout adult leader or parent who will go on Cub Scout outdoor events.

Why should I take this training?
This two parts course will prepare you with skills and knowledge to conduct outdoor activities and camping with your Pack or Den. You must complete both parts to qualify as a trained outdoor Cub Scout leader. The online training is available on my.scouting.org. The hands-on course is an overnight camping experience. At least one person in the pack or den MUST be BALOO trained to go camping.
