Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) will be held is deal for new adult leaders in the Scouts BSA program and Venturing.
Over the course of the weekend adult leaders will learn specific tasks and responsibilities of being the Scoutmaster as well as outdoor skills.
During the outdoor skills, leaders will be working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. This course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops and Varsity Scout Teams, in order to be considered “trained”.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? - Scouts BSA leaders with a desire to learn outdoor skills.
WHAT TO BRING:
Current BSA Health and Medical Form—Parts A and B
Scouts BSA Handbook
Full BSA Class A Uniform and Class B/Utility Uniform
Other essentials—Pocket knife, First Aid Kit, Rain Gear, Water bottle, Flashlight, Matches, Map and Compass, Tent, Ground Cloth, Sleeping Bag, and Sleeping pad.
Eating kit—Knife , fork, spoon, plate, bowl and cup.
Clean up kit— Soap, toothpaste, tooth brush, Washcloth, towel, etc.
Personal extras—Folding chair/stool, watch, pen/pencil, paper or notebook.
